What is Food Security?
The food supply is said to be secure when all the people, at all times, have access to enough, safe and nutritious food, so that people can maintain a healthy and active life. Access means being able to food easily and being able to afford food that caters for people's dietary needs and food preferences. Food insecurity exists when people lack sustainable physical and economic access to safe and nutritious food. South Africa face many problems to do with Food Security.

How do Window Farms increase Food Security?

Window farms are a powerful tool for changing the way consumers relate to their food. All equipment is made from recyclable material. Window farms use up very little space, and are built at home, which means the food that is produced is very easily accessible. They are very affordable, because they are made out of recycled material, which costs nothing. The consumer is building the window farm themselves and for their own use, so they can select to grow foodstuffs that suit the needs of their specific family, e.g. foodstuffs which are nutritious for babies or the elderly. The consumer also has total control over the safety of the food as they determine what fertilizers and pesticides are used - if any.
